9 Signs You are Holistically Unwell

We consist of bodies, minds, hearts and souls. We know we need to care for each of these areas of self to live our healthiest lives. Unfortunately, we can indeed be healthy in one area and unwell in others. It is the health and harmony of the holistic self that allows us to live our blissfully, authentically best lives.

In this post, I will share a list of symptoms we are out of touch with one or more aspects of the whole and can do some work to move towards alignment.

9 signs you need a little holistic TLC

1) You experience the fight or flight response often

When our brain senses danger it tells the body to release hormones to help us respond. This causes our heart to beat faster, sharpens our senses and causes us to breathe quickly. It's a survival instinct to keep us safe from danger so if you experience this often, you are in an unhealthy environment. No shit right? This is holistically unhealthy because we know this in our bodies but for some reason we are choosing not to demand these circumstances change for us.

2)You are triggered in varied situations and by many people

When someone experiences a trigger, it often stems from past trauma, unresolved emotions, or deep-seated fears. These triggers can manifest in a variety of ways, such as anxiety, anger, sadness, or even physical sensations like a racing heart or upset stomach. Often if our triggers are physical, we don’t consider that they could come from emotional issues. Or we don’t make the connection between the emotional pain stemming from wounding held in the body.

3) You have chronic pain or illness that doesn’t have a specific cause

Chronic pain/illness can be caused by emotional or psychological factors. This is an often overlooked issue that affects many individuals. This type of pain is not solely physical but is deeply connected to a person's emotional well-being. Psychological stress, trauma, and unresolved emotions can manifest as physical pain in the body over time, leading to chronic discomfort and suffering.

4) You are frequently overwhelmed by your emotions

When intense feelings flood our minds and bodies, it can be difficult to know how to cope. It's important to remember that it's okay to feel overwhelmed at times, as emotions are a natural part of being human. However, losing control of our actions due to these emotions, being overwhelmed by our emotions regularly or judging ourselves harshly is a good sign that there is work to be done.

5)You are addicted to anything

We usually know that we have a problem when we are addicted to drugs, alcohol, food, sex, shopping etc. When we consistently use anything to dull the sensations in our bodies, the thoughts that race through our minds or the feelings we suffer from, we are not holistically aligned.

6)You frequently miss red flags

Missing red flags is a sign that we're not in tune with our higher consciousness or intuition. We know that something isn’t right but we ignore the feelings/sensations/thoughts and carry on, putting ourselves in situations that aren’t in our best interest. Missing red flags happens to everyone but missing them regularly is a sign that we are denying an important aspect of our higher consciousness.

7)You experience destructive thought loops and repetitive patterns

My personal favourite, which played on a loop for many years was “You’re such a moron”. Negative thoughts and destructive patterns often stem from deep-seated beliefs, traumas, and conditioning acquired throughout our lives. These patterns manifest in our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, creating cycles that seem challenging to break. They can be rooted in fear, past experiences, societal norms, or even ancestral influences.

8)You know things intellectually but can’t integrate them

Knowing something and integrating it into our lives are two distinct processes. It is possible to possess knowledge intellectually without actually embodying or applying it practically. This disconnect commonly occurs when there is a lack of alignment between our beliefs and our actions. Understanding a concept on a surface level does not automatically result in behavioral changes or internalization of that knowledge.

9)You don’t feel connected to your spirit

Feeling disconnected from spirit can leave one feeling lost and adrift, like a ship without a compass. It can be a lonely and disorienting experience, where one searches for meaning and purpose in a fog of uncertainty. Without that deep connection to spirit, life can feel dull and devoid of magic, like a colouring book missing its vibrant hues.

Holistic health is an approach that considers the root cause of imbalances rather than just treating symptoms, leading to long-lasting and sustainable healing.

Holistic health empowers individuals to take control of their own healing journey, fostering self-awareness and personal growth. By embracing holistic practices, we can enhance our quality of life, cultivate a deeper sense of purpose, and experience a profound connection to ourselves and the world around us.
